How to Easily Maintain your Laptop or Desktop for optimal performance.

Alot of us use our laptops or desktop PC's everyday and chances are there will come a time where the machine will seem to run Sluggish and slow and does not seem to perform as it once did. The main reason for this is that we tend to take things for granted when it comes to our machines and tend to throw everything at it and expect to perform superbly.

However, here are some things you can try to keep your computer running in tip-top shape.

 

1) Unistalling Unused Applications.
Every now and then we have software that is either corrupt,dislike or slows your computers performance. So an un-installation process begins.We will always navigate to the control panel to uninstall programs. This is always successful way to remove unwanted programs,but sometimes software/ programs tend to leave behind certain files that should have been removed with the un-installation process but did not. To counter this we recommend the installation of a Software removal Tool, Such as:

  • "REVO" Uninstaller.
    "REVO" scans your computer for leftover files and Registry entries after the program is uninstalled, enabling you to perform a cleaner uninstall.

2)Regularly updating your Drivers and software.
Drivers are a common thing we tend to over look. This line of thought comes from the saying " If it Ain't Broken, Why Fix it?". However this may not apply to computers though. Driver updates are an essential part of the Machine and will need to be checked regularly.Drivers and software updates are essential for the machine to rectify any issues you may face in the long run. There are programs that can help with the process. Drivereasy and File Hippo's Update checker can simplify the process of checking for updates for your drivers.

 

3)Hard disk drive maintainance.
The Hard disk drive is the Brain of your machine. That is where almost everything is stored. It is best to make a habit to run "DISK-CHECK" every now and then to ensure that there are no Bad sectors found in the HDD. To do so,

  • Go to "My Computer" 
  • > Right Click on "C" drive 
  • > Choose Properties 
  • > Click on the "TOOLS" Tab 
  • > Click on "Check Now" Button

  • Another great way to Help maintain your Hard drive is Disk Defrag. This relocates the fragmented files on your hard drive so they are not taking up more space than they should.
    1. Open My Computer.
    2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.
    3. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now.
    4. Click Defragment.


4) Clean-up Tools.
Redundant files left over a period of time are things we tend to over look as well. Using tools such as CCleaner can help with this cause. Clearing out redundant files and should be done regularly, This too can help the with computers performance.Some will prefer to use a Registry Cleaning tool, however this is best to avoid as programs tend to delete irreplaceable registry strings for your windows system and cause serious damage to your system.We recommend using CCleaner for Registry cleanup. It allows you to keep a back up of the registry in case there are any issues, otherwise, it's a simple 2 click process to remove unwanted registry entries.


5) Staying Safe and secure online
The best way to avoid issues is to ensure that you don't put yourself at risk. Ensure that your computer is well protected With A Firewall and Antivirus.  if you're on a budget there are free versions that can cater to your needs with enough security placed to keep your data protected at all time, such as Avast or AVG. Adding extra protection such as Malwarebytes can help tremendously.

 

Simple steps that take a few extra minutes a week can help keep your laptop or desktop PC running smoothly and efficiently.
